I’m looking forward to capturing the special moments when your child has their first taste of cake! Here are some tips to help you prepare for the photo shoot:

- In terms of cake sizes, an 8 inch cake is a good size, with three layers or two thick layers.
- A cake covered in think buttercream frosting or cream icing gives the best photographic effect.
- Bring a couple of outfits and some wet wipes/a spare muslin as your child is likely to get messy!
- Give your child some lunch or a snack before you arrive – there’s no need for them to be hungry for the shoot as they’ll be grumpy otherwise!
- Please bring along your child’s favourite snack (puffs, raisins, Cheerios!) because if they don’t like the cake we can use the snack to help them touch it for the photos!
- A drink is good to have on hand after the smash is over.
- For a lot of kids, the feeling of cake on their hands is weird – and they don’t like it – so we have to keep wiping their hands to keep them happy! An old muslin or wipes are good for this.
- In the weeks before the shoot you are welcome to let them play with food / cake textures to get them used to it
- When it comes to choosing a cake, please avoid anything red or black. Neutral colours, whites and light pinks and baby blues work really well
